I'm loving this show. The atmosphere, the characters (most of them), the music (most of it), the story. I'm beginning to think I might try watching the whole story (which I've never done with a long sageuk).

The Mandarin for "tongue-twister" is apparently 绕口令 rào kŏu lìng. I just looked that up. Ironically, rào kŏu lìng is easy to pronounce.

Lately I've discovered several things that I have a hard time pronouncing. In Young Warriors of the Yang Clan, Sixth Brother's wife becomes 杨六娘 Yáng Liù Niáng... and my tongue has trouble getting that out without ( Read more... )

For some reason, my listening comprehension was down today. Tingting said a lot of things I had trouble understanding. On the other hand, I was speaking a lot more Mandarin today. I really made an effort to try saying everything I could in Mandarin, to see if I could overcome whatever block I've been having lately. It was better.

If I could have an episode made up of all the scenes between Seven and his OTP, I think I'd watch that over and over again. They're just so cute together. Their awesome is enough to fill the sky.

That scene with Guan Hong and Yelu Xie had another line that caught me. The English subtitle goes:

There are a lot of nice scenes here. I'm enjoying all of the scenes with Qi Lang and Du Jin E. They're just fun.

I'm not so much enjoying Pan Ying. I keep expecting Malcolm Reynolds from Firefly to step in and say "I'm sorry to interrupt your crazy time..."

Scenes with Yelu Xie just keep getting more fascinating. He leaves Poisoner Guy wounded in the forest and walks off. Guan Hong comes along and tries to get her revenge, but that doesn't go well. A confusion of moments happen, and Poisoner Guy is dead. She knows Yelu Xie did it (Large Obvious Dart gave it away), she sees him moving away through the ( Read more... )

Mostly I only pause for romantic dialog -- or at least really interesting interpersonal conversations. I noticed this with Black & White as well.

Anyway, Yelu Xie pulls Guan Hong close and says something I can't catch. The English subtitle says "I can feel your heart beat fiercely."

So I turn on simplified characters and watch again.
